House
Farm Bill Ignores the Hungry
Statement by Linda Bopp, Executive
Director of Hunger Solutions New York
Yesterday, the House of
Representatives passed a Farm Bill that does not include the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is our country’s first line of
defense against hunger and has proven to be very effective. SNAP
enables low-income people to eat healthier, more nutritious food while
benefiting local economies. Currently,
over 3 million New Yorkers rely on SNAP to put food on their tables which
consequently brought more than $5 billion into New York’s economy last
year. We need a Farm Bill that honors
our country’s commitment to help our most vulnerable. Hunger Solutions New York
will continue to work for a Farm Bill that protects SNAP and the nation’s
children, seniors, disabled, veterans, and working families who depend on this
vital Program.
