Resource Limit Increase for Newly Applying Families That Include a Senior/Disabled Member

A new Food Stamp Policy Update is now available from Hunger Solutions New York concerning an increase in the resource limit for families with senior and disabled members.

NYS has released GIS 12TA/DC001 informing food stamp offices across the state that the resource limit for food stamp families with an elderly or disabled member has increased starting October 1, 20011. The limit is now set at $3,250 up from the previous limit of $3,000.

This new increase in the resource limit only affects families with a senior or disabled member who:
  • are NOT categorically eligible for the food stamp program and,
  • are currently applying for food stamp benefits, or
  • applied between October 1, 2011 and January 3, 2012.
Most families in NYS which include a senior or disabled member no longer need to meet a resource limit because of the expansion of Categorical Eligibility back in 2007.
